PART A: Essential China
Travel: May 20-21, 2018 (Denver –> Beijing)
Day 1 (5/21): Arrive in Beijing.

Check into your hotel, rest up, then join the group for a Welcome Dinner. After dinner, swing by the Beijing Olympic Village’s Birds Nest Stadium and Water Cube.
Dinner included. Breakfast and lunch served earlier on plane.

Day 2 (5/22): Beijing.
Morning excursion to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. After lunch, wander around Nanluoguxiang and shop at Xiushuijie Market. Then visit the Chinese Royal Gastronomy Museum for a unique dynastic dining experience featuring an Imperial Banquet with traditional performances. The ground floor is a food court with 3,000 traditional snacks. The second floor has a display area with over 1,000 antiques from Chinese food culture.

Day 3 (5/23): Beijing.
Visit the Great Wall! The Badaling section was built in 1504 during the Ming Dynasty and was the first section opened to tourists in 1957. Afterwards, venture back to Beijing and visit Sanlitun Bar Street. Tonight, we feast on authentic Peking Duck—the best in the world—at Huajiayiyuan Restaurant.

Day 4 (5/24): Beijing –> Yinchuan.
Meet up with Part B group at the Beijing airport and fly, together, to Yinchuan, famed as being the death place of Genghis Khan.

PART B: Cultural & Natural Heritage
Travel: May 23-24, 2018 (Denver –> Beijing)
Day 4 (5/24): Beijing –> Yinchuan.
Meet up with Part A group at the Beijing airport and fly, together, to Yinchuan, famed as being the death place of Genghis Khan.

Day 5 (5/25): Yinchuan.
Sand Lake Scenic Resort.

Morning excursion to Sand Lake Scenic Resort, where the desert meets water. Then, visit Shuidonggou, a former military defense base along the Great Wall of China during the Ming Dynasty. This site features many scenic areas as well as fun modes of transport such as ox carts, horse-drawn carriages, camels, donkey carts, and
pedicabs. Afterward, take a cruise on Hongshan Lake.

Day 6 (5/26): Yinchuan.
West Xia Imperial Tombs.

Morning visit to West Xia Imperial Tombs and Imperial Musuem. Then, visit the Rock Paintings of Mount Helan, a cultural relic of Inner Mongolia. Finish your day at the China Western Film Studio, the Hollywood of China, featuring the best outdoor shooting base for films and TV series based on Western China and Chinese history.

Fly to Kunming (MU2205: 7:40am-10:25am), well-known in Colorado as being a Sister City to Denver! This region is also known as Shangri-La, made famous by James Hilton’s 1939 novel, Lost Horizon in 1939. In Tibetan, Shangri-La means the “sun and moon in heart”, an ideal home only found in heaven. The snowy mountains, endless
grasslands, grand gorges, azure lakes and quaint villages always leave a deep impression on visitors.

Day 8 (5/28) Kunming.
After breakfast, visit the Jiuxiang Scenic Region and then the Kunming Stone Forest.

Fly to Dali (MU5943: 7:40am-8:30am). After lunch, take a boat cruise on Erhai Lake, visit Dali Ancient Town, and the Foreigner Street.

Day 10 (5/30) Dali –> Lijiang.

After breakfast, drive to Lijiang and visit the Xizhou Bai Minority Residence along the way, where you will enjoy a three-course tea and special ethnic performance. Then, visit Black Dragon Pool, Lion Mountain, Lijiang Ancient Town, and Sifang Square.

Day 11 (5/31) Lijiang.

After breakfast, visit Spruce Meadow of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the southernmost glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. With a summit elevation of 18,360, this area well-known for mountaineering and skiing! You will enjoy a cable car ride on the mountain before attending the Impression of Lijiang cultural performance and visiting Ganhai, White Water River, Blue Moon Valley, and the Yushui Stockade. In the evening, visit Shuhe Ancient Town and enjoy a nighttime bonfire.

Day 12 (6/1) Lijiang –> Shanghai.
Fly to Shanghai (MU5820: 9:00am-12:30pm). Check into your hotel and rest before a group dinner.

Day 13 (6/2) Shanghai.
Free day to explore Shanghai! In the evening, attend the Nathan Yip Foundation’s Shanghai Gala. Your ticket to this event has been included in your tour fee.

Day 14 (6/3) Shanghai –> Tongli.

After breakfast, transfer to visit the ancient water town, Tongli. Transfer back to Shanghai in the afternoon and visit the Bund, Xintiandi, and French Concession. In the evening, enjoy a special farewell dinner arranged by NYF Board member and Shanghai resident, Stephanie Tung.
